When you nail in the second boards offset the seams of the upper and lower layers by at least 24 in 61 cm. A simple gable shed roof is often built using 2 4 or 2 6 lumber for the rafters and 2 4 for the collar ties. Nail 2 boards onto your walls as top plates. Raise it up horizontally and hold it in place with a 2 4 resting on the floor in the center of the base piece and one at the top center of the truss.

Much depends on the structure size and the desired attic loft or headroom. Unless of course you have a very steep pitch on your trusses or rafters. Your local building codes may also require the use of hurricane ties for each truss member where it rests on the top plate. A gable roof for a shed can be built with rafters with a 1 6 ridge board or using trusses.

Carry a gable end in and set it on the top plate upside down and backwards near the end wall. Use 8 penny nails to attach the first 2 in 4 in 5 1 cm 10 2 cm board to the wall studs. Then you will have more storage. The members are held together with a 5 8 inch plywood gusset.

Set a ladder at the outside of both corners of the end wall.
